Two attorneys, two offices

Marit grew up on a dairy farm between Westby and Viroqua and came home to practice after law school. Most of her work is helping families decide who gets what, and making sure the paperwork actually says it: wills and trusts, transfer-on-death deeds, and plans for farms where one child farms and the others don't.

She also guides families through probate after a death, which in Vernon County usually means informal administration and a lot of patient phone calls. If you don't need a lawyer for something, she will tell you.

Outside the office she skis the county trails in winter and keeps a garden that is too big.

Owen kept the books at his family's hardware store in La Crosse for six years before law school, so he reads a business's numbers before its contracts. He sets up LLCs, writes the agreements partners should have signed on day one, and reviews leases before anyone signs them.

His family law work is mostly divorce, custody and placement. He settles what can be settled, tells you what a fight will cost before you pick it, and is ready for court when settling is not possible.

He also handles home purchases and sales in La Crosse County, and is licensed in Minnesota for clients with property across the river.
