Backwater Outfitters Book a trip

Guided trips and prices

Three trips, one boat, one guide. Every trip launches from the Stoddard landing and includes rods, tackle, bait and life jackets. Open-water prices are for the whole boat, not per person.

What happens after you ask

  1. You send the request

Trip, date and how many of you. Nothing is charged.

  2. I text you within a day

To confirm the date, or to offer the closest open one if the river says no.

  3. You pay a $100 deposit

By card through a secure link I text you. It holds the date.

  4. We meet at the landing

Fifteen minutes before the start time, at the Stoddard boat landing off Highway 35. Bring your licence.

Weather, cancelling and other questions

If lightning, high wind or high water makes the river unsafe, I call it, usually the evening before. You pick a new date or get your deposit back. If you need to cancel, tell me seven days ahead and the deposit moves to another date.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes. Kids five and up do well on a half day, especially in the fall when the white bass are busting. I have life jackets that fit them, and they count as anglers in the price.

Do I need a fishing licence?

Everyone 16 and older needs one. A Wisconsin or a Minnesota licence both work on the boundary waters of the Mississippi. Buy it online before the trip and have it on your phone.

Is there a bathroom on the boat?

No. I will run you back to the landing whenever you need, or to a quiet island if that is more your style.

Can we keep fish?

Yes, within Wisconsin limits. I keep walleye and panfish for the pan when you want them, and I clean and bag them at the landing. Bass, pike and big fish go back.

What if we do not catch anything?

It happens a few times a year. You pay for the time and the boat, not the fish. If the forecast looks bad, I will tell you honestly the night before and we can move the date.
